The historic parliament building has been modernised technically and functionally, while respecting heritage protection and complying with current standards.
The surgery and operating centre in building 518 has been renovated and modernised with medical technology. This has resulted in additional operating areas as well as office and teaching rooms. Furthermore, the building's energy efficiency has been optimised and it has been equipped with photovoltaic systems.

On the Kiel Campus of the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH), the Surgery and Operating Centre in Building 518 has undergone comprehensive renovation and medical-technical modernisation. Additional operating and procedure rooms have been created, and new examination equipment, such as MRI, CT, and X-ray systems, has been integrated. Furthermore, office, teaching, and lounge areas have been established to support clinical operations, administration, and training.
As part of the measures, the 1970s building was also renovated to improve its energy efficiency. In addition to improving the building envelope, photovoltaic systems were installed on the roof and facade surfaces.
